Pioneers of the famous

“Amarone method”

A Legacy Since Early 1800s

Bellalasta Winery has a long and proud history dating back over two centuries.

It all started in the early 1800s as a family-owned and run winery.

Luigi Gozzi took over the winery in 1867, infusing his passion and innovative spirit into the winemaking.

Over the years, Bellalasta achieved numerous milestones and recognition for its superior wines.

Stamp of Quality Since 1895

Bellalasta Winery's reputation for excellence in winemaking continued to grow and the winery had established itself as a recognized name in the industry.

In 1895, with great pride and determination, Bellalasta began exporting its wines to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

A handwritten export letter, now a treasured artifact in our private cellar, attests to the quality and origin of the exported wine, a testament to the winery's early success.

Pioneering the famous “Amarone” method

In the early 1900s, Bellalasta pioneered a revolutionary winemaking process for making a dry, complex and full body wine from the sugary grapes used for Recioto. This method later became world famous as the "Amarone” method.

We carefully preserve our first bottles produced from this “Amarone” method in early 1900 and named "Recchiotto Brusco". In fact this literally means, “Dry Recioto” as opposite to the previoulsy used technique of producing sweet Recioto out of dried and sugary grapes.

“Not only is this bottle a testament to Bellalasta's pioneering spirit, it also serves as a crucial evidence to reveal that the Amarone method was already being used in the early 1900s, long before the Amarone name was officially coined in 1950s.”

A Visionary Impact Project

He saw the enormous potential of the new winemaking methods and wanted the entire region to benefit.

In 1957, as a skilled engineer, he embarked on a visionary project to unite local winegrowers into a large cooperative. By joining forces, they could afford the latest technology and expertise and transform from simple winegrowers into modern winemakers.

Gozzi turned his vision into reality by building the cooperative himself and becoming its first founding partner.

Today a Boutique Winery

Today, Bellalasta Winery is a boutique winery producing less than 5,000 numbered bottles per year of the finest wines.

Instead of venturing into bulk production, Bellalasta remained true to its mission of wine excellence. Our focus on quality over quantity means that every bottle of Bellalasta wine is a testament to the time-honored traditions of our winemaking heritage.
